Summer Program

Here at St. John’s, we believe summer is a whimsical and joyful time. We invite children ages 2.5 to 7 years old to join us!

Incorporating St. John’s philosophy, teachers and children, alike, share in a wide variety of materials and techniques. From sewing and clay to wirework and plaster, children have the opportunity to express their own observations and theories in a multitude of ways.

St. John’s Summer Program fosters links between the natural world and aesthetic experiences. Utilizing indoor and outdoor classrooms and studios, children express their own observations and theories using multiple media.

Registration will go live in February 2025, and for any questions or inquiries please contact Cece Cook at 202-338-2574 or ccook@stjohnsdc.org.

PRESCHOOL LINKS 2.5 – 2.11 years 9:00am-12:00pm

Links provides a gentle introduction to the school setting. Tucked away from the bustle of other programs, children will enjoy both new and familiar activities as they develop friendships and trusting relationships with adults, and explore the abundant classroom materials. The day is organized to provide small group experiences in both the indoor and outdoor classrooms. This programming is best suited for children entering school for the 2024-2025 year.

SUMMER CONNECTIONS 3 – 4.11 years 9:00am-2:30pm

Summer Connections incorporates the philosophy of St. John’s Preschool with the good old-fashioned fun of summer. The rich resources of the outdoor classroom provide a springboard for exploration and investigations, integrating children’s theories and ideas. Children deepen their relationship with a variety of materials like wire, clay, sewing, paper, and light and shadow. An afternoon rest time is always an option.

SUMMER EXPLORERS 5 – 7 years 9:00am-2:30pm

Children and teachers will explore our community. Back at camp, we’ll translate our discoveries into projects – drawing, painting, sculpture, construction and more. With plenty of morning exploration, children can make choices in the afternoon with their friends in Connections. Children deepen their understanding with a variety of languages like technology, science, nature, cooking, and sewing. An afternoon rest time is always an option.
