Carolyn Kouri, Tucker Room

Carolyn has always been passionate about the arts which led her to pursue a B.A. in Studio Art from Carleton College which she integrated into my service as a Peace Corps education volunteer in Mozambique following my graduation. Returning to Washington, D.C. after this experience led me to further her education at The George Washington University with an M.Ed in Art Education. She continued to grow her knowledge serving as a middle school art educator for ten years at Alice Deal Middle School followed by two years serving as Dean of Culture there as well as focusing on building a strong community with students and colleagues. Carolyn, her husband, and their two children, just returned from living overseas in Dakar, Senegal these past three years where she taught English to a range of age groups including early elementary, high school, and adults while making time for painting, ultimate frisbee, rock climbing, and of course building lasting friendships with new friends from all over the world. She found myself pulled to early childhood education based on my children’s experiences internationally which led me to earn a second teaching license in this age group. Carolyn is excited to connect with our children and families and looking forward to a wonderful year!
